It's been almost 10 years since former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp released the amazing Seven More Minutes by his band, The Rentals. It looks like we have to wait no more, though: after a fantastic solo EP and album, Sharp reformed Rentals with a slightly different line-up, and will hit the road again this summer with Copeland supporting. And after the tour ends, Sharp and company will hit the studio to record a new album.
To tide fans over, though, the band will release The Last Little Life EP on August 14th. Featuring three new songs and a brand new take on the classic "Sweetness And Tenderness" from their debut The Return Of The Rentals, it almost sounds as if the band has never really disbanded. Sharp takes the laid back and relaxed approach of his solo album, and applies it to The Rentals sound, and comes out swinging. "Last Romantic Day," the lead off track, starts with what sounds like a string quartet, before an acoustic guitar comes in underneath it all to mix with their healthy dose of synthesizers they always have plenty of in their songs.
For those of you who can't wait til August 14th, eMusic has the entire EP up for your pleasure. Right now.
